Forehand: The Forward Swing

John Yandell

The forward swing is what determines everything about the shot. In the past articles we've set up the elements in the preparation—body turn, backswing, and stance.

Now let's take the swing outward and upward and across. It's a complex movement on a curve in three dimensions. But the checkpoints for the extension of the swing make the right curve natural and automatic. See how to move from the outside backswing, turbocharge your shoulder muscles, and hit with effortless power and spin on the basic forehand drive.

Special recognition to Brian Gordon and Rick Macci for their contribution in understanding the relationships between the world class elements in a great forehand for any level!
