The backswing can't be a true commonality because there are so many possible variations and sizes and shapes--as we see clearly in the pro game.
So what are the variations? And what is the final purpose? Let's take a look at the range of motions. What we see is that regardless of individual style, size and shape, they all do one thing in the end, deliver the hitting arm to a core position to start the forward swing....
