  • To lead the frame or not to lead the frame, to customize or not, that is the question

Some say a lighter frame can move faster. Maneuverability is the goal. Racquet speed. Some say the only way to hit a heavy ball is with a heavy frame. The old masters all played heavy. The modern guys play a medium weight: about 360g for the most part. But it's a combination of silicone, and lead, polarized and depolarized frame at once. Those who prefer a head heavy set up like lead at 12 and in the handle. It's up to you to find the fine line. Put lead at 3 and 9. See how you like it. Put lead at 12 only. See how you like it. Put lead all the way around the hoop. See how you like it. Inject 25g of soft clear silicone into the handle. See how you like it. All changes can be removed. Compare frames, with the same make, with different set ups.

Grinders who like top spin will like a rounder pallet, head heavy frames, lighter mass, edged main strings, medium tensions.

Power players will like heavier frames, closed patterns, tighter tensions, siliconed handles, sharper pallet edges, power strings like vs team/alu.

Hackers will like syn guy, larger frames, lighter frames, strung lower. To each his own! What's your preference?

Some say a heavier frame takes more impact out of the elbow/arm. Only if the ra is medium/low and you use silicone in handle. Most pros don't who uses heavier frames. Most use silicone in combination. It adds mass in a neutral place, the handle. Removes a lot of high energy vibration/high frequency vibration impact into the soft gel like substance before it gets to your aching body. Not just for mass.
