A New Teaching System: Serve
2nd Serve Spins and Placements
John Yandell
In this article we look at how a key element in the upper swing determines second serve placements and spins. As we saw in looking at the first serve, the racket face angle at contact and the direction of the racket face when it strikes the ball are determined by the rotation of the hand, arm and racket. This is driven by the internal or forward rotation of the shoulder. Small differences in this rotation create the differences at contact and the variations in the deliveries. See what these differences are, how they vary in the two service boxes, and how to master them for yourself!
