Born in Adelaide, Australia, and raised in Italy, Ray Giubilo began his career in Sydney, where he opened his first photographic studio in 1987. His early work in fashion and portraiture developed his strong command of lighting, but a desire to capture real movement led him toward reportage and, ultimately, sports photography.
Ray has photographed almost every major sport, yet tennis has always been his favorite. He started shooting professionally at the 1989 Australian Open and has since covered more than 100 Grand Slams, over 150 ATP/WTA events, and multiple Davis and Fed Cup ties. His Olympic assignments include Sydney 2000, London 2012, Rio 2016, and the 2006 Torino Winter Games.
His tennis images have appeared in exhibitions in London and New York, and he is the author of several books on the sport. Ray is also the staff photographer for Il Tennis Italiano, the world’s oldest tennis magazine.
