The Toss
We are going to change the language and the mindset from saying we are going to toss the ball to saying we are going to delicately and gently place the ball on the serve.
The goal here is to help you with your serve’s consistency, accuracy, and speed. And it all revolves around placing the ball on the serve in the right spot and being able to do it consistently.
Pete Sampras is widely considered by many to have had the greatest serve of all time. A major reason for this is that his toss is impeccable.
The fundamental problem with many servers is what I call the “international toss.” They throw the ball all over the world.
Most people tend to place the ball too low rather than too high. If you think of placing the ball at what seems too high, that usually turns out to be the right height. You also don’t want to place the ball so high that it becomes an overhead.
You want to start slow and deliberate.
