  • Iga Swiatek:

It's been 2 years since we featured Iga Swiatek in a Tour Portrait, since then she's extended her championship run at Roland Garros to four (4) consecutive women's singles titles at only 23 years old. Incredible run.

Please click to see our album of photos I took across several matches at BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells.
Images from the night matches were particularly difficult to process, with mercury lights yellow/ muddy shade but I hope you'll like her intensity and her technqiue.

Here's one to whet your appetite:

She probably has the best clay court forehand in ever in WTA.

I didn't realize how strong her legs are, which these photos show. No wonder she can grind it out on clay. And that western forehand is, like Stroke mentioned, brutal on the clay. Thanks for the great portrait of Iga!

Tremendous thigh development. Reminds me of 49ers Christian McCaffrey. Shared an elevator with her once. Very shy. I just nodded, not to impose.

Iga's back in the kitchen baking -- a bagel and breadstick today vs Elisabetta Cociaretto in Rome.

Iga has been in a slump ever since losing to Quinwen Zhang, the eventual gold medalist, in the Paris Olympics at Roland Garros. Speculation is that Iga, a very emotional player, lost her confidence. Iga herself said after he recent loses on clay that her footwork -- long held up as the gold standard on the WTA -- has been off. As someone said, "If you have to think about your footwork, you've already missed."

Here's a video discussing that. A bit verbose, but some thoughts.
