To me, this is what a class act looks like.
That was incredibly honest and thoughtful. Absolute class act. Thanks for posting that link.

    • Early line, Carlos with an implied probability of 55% of winning vs Jannick.

        • Iga wins 6-0 6-0. It’s a 100 years since a player did that.

One comment I saw online: That’s one drug cheat through. Another could win tomorrow.

It’s a cruel world out there for those who make a misstep.

          • You can only beat whoever shows up. But ... Iga won a slam title with Samsonova at number 19 as I believe the highest ranked player she faced.
The only case I can remember of another player winning a slam without meeting a single top 10 player is when Rafa won the US Open in 2017.
Rafa didn't beat a single player in the top 25. There are Challengers with tougher draws than that. Literally.

Nadal defeated these players en route to winning the 2017 USO:
            Dusan Lajovic (ranked 85)
            Taro Daniel (ranked 121)
            Leonardo Mayer (ranked 59)
            Alexandr Dolgopolov (ranked 64),
            Andrey Rublev (ranked 53)
Juan Martin Del Potro (ranked 28)
            Kevin Anderson (ranked 32).

            • Many online were calling for Iga's coach Wim Fissette, one of the most successful and sought after coaches in women's tennis, to be fired. Iga had brought Kim on to help her expand her game. Took a while, a painful while, to come together but it sure has.

Imagining Fasset singing, "How you like me now." Cue The Heavy from 2009. Her's a list of Fasset's notable tournaments (with champion)"

              2x US Open (Clijsters)
              2010 WTA Tour Championships (Clijsters)
              2011 Australian Open (Clijsters)
              2013 Wimbledon runner-up (Lisicki)
              2014 French Open runner-up (Halep)
              2018 Wimbledon Championships (Kerber)
              2020 US Open (Osaka)
              2021 Australian Open (Osaka)
              2025 Wimbledon (Swiatek)

Last time there was a double bagel in a slam final was 1988 Roland Garros, a 35 minute match with 18 year old Steffi Graf over a Natasha Zverev in 35 minutes.

And, starting in the middle of the first set in the semifinal, Iga won 20 consecutive games to close it out. Twenty. Consecutive. Games.

                • Not much else to say, but they sold tickets to that "match"

People over here are complaining already. The cost of a ticket was ?315 for a 57 minute match. I don’t know Anisimova but she doesn’t seem the brightest on court. I mean, you'd think she just dig in and rally down the middle…or anything to cut down the errors, get some rhythm, and not hand the match to Iga on a plate. Mind-boggling!

                        • Sinner desperately needs a win against Carlos. He’s lost their last five meetings. It’s only a rivalry if both players win more or less equally.

                          • The 1980 Wimbledon final between Borg and McEnroe remains the most watched final ever in the UK with 17.3 million viewers tuning in. That’s over 30% of the population of that time. It dwarfs the viewings of even the 2008 final. The contrast between Borg and McEnroe captured the nation like no other players before or since. They were irresistible viewing…riveting. Can Sinner and Carlos match them? You tell me.

To me, now is the perfect time for all the WTA players, and their supporters, to double down and fuss about court assignments and pay. Don't give into the man. Who cares if WTA tournaments have hardy any attendees or interest. The best defense is always a good offense. Anyone who does not agree can be labeled as chavanistic or such.
