  • Washington ATP 500

    Ahead of the ATP event in Washington, known as the Washington Open, we delve into the futures betting, pinpointing a pre-tournament betting angle.

    Fellow tennisplayer.net friends. I almost did not even start this thread, as Nick had unexpectedly withdrawn. But the tournament is still going to proceed evidently, so I decided to go ahead.

    Well that was a brutal watch. Nick was by far the worst player on the court. He no longer looks like an ATP player. Oh well. He can least continue to social media post on Sinner I guess. The end of an era so to speak.

      I think crediting Nick with an "era" is too much. He had his Warholian 15 minutes of fame.
      Burned all his bridges and is now trying to wade back to no avail.

        Ha, the "era" reference was an attempt at sarcasm

          Yet again I fell victim to Poe's Law of the Internet. Sigh

          Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture which says that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent -- such as a winky or smiley emoticon - any parodic or sarcastic expression of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of those views.

            Cam Norrie had a 3 set win over Musetti, after losing the 1st set. Both players really seemed to want this win. It was a battle. Cam certainly not the most talented, but he really fights well out there.

                This is priceless. Venus returned to competition because her health insurance was running out. Seriously. She's only worth $95 million, so every dollar counts.

                "I had to come back for the insurance," she said in an on-court interview following her Mubadala Citi D.C. Open victory against Peyton Stearns in Washington on Tuesday.

                "They informed me this year that I'm on COBRA, so it's like, I got to get my benefits on," she said, giggling

                    Wow! Fritz played great at Wimbledon and the US Open courts, I presume suit him even better.

                    The image from stroke's link. Oddly, Fritz's serve, grading on a curve, was the weakest of his shots.

                    If he can keep this up he's dangerous vs anyone.

                      Interesting match going on, the pugnacious Dan Evans vs the annoying Moutet. Annoying Moutet won the 1st set routinely, and Evans does not seem ro be enjoying himself out there so far.

                        Learner Tien's nickname should be "Fast Learner", the 19 yo SoCal kid, is now 4-1 vs top 10 opponents after upsetting Rublev.

                        He's sort of kind of the new Brooksby in terms of frustrating other players. His top 10 wins

                        * Medveddv 25 Australian, five sets
                        * Zverev, 25 Roland Garros
                        * Shelton, 25 Mallorca
                        * Now Rublev 7-6 6-2

                          Oh, the Burn

                          After Raducanu took out Osaka in straights, Naomi was asked if there was any comparison between her trajectory and Ema's.
                          Answer is, ah, concise.

                          From Ben Rothenberg/ Substack

                            Great answer, Naomi clearly one of the best ever, and such a great interview.

                              Med goes out in 3 to the annoying Moutet. Med had a bit of a temper tantrum after losing the match.
