To me, a fascinating match Michelsen in 3 over Musetti. Lorenzo in full flight with his beautiful game, won the first set pretty routinely, but Alex pretty much did the Spanish no quarter given thing and persevered. It was a very impressive win for Alex in my eyes.

Is it the poutine?
Defending champion Alexei Popyrin hasn't done much since winning the Rogers Cup in Canada last year, now he's back and beat Medvedev and Rune back-to-back.
ATP: "Popyrin went 0/11 on break point opportunities in the first set before dropping his brand of ‘Big Man Tennis’ on the Dane, converting both break points in the second set and his first of the third as he powered to the finish line behind 14 aces and 13 forehand winners. ... The 25-year-old Australian produced a perfect blend of Serve + 1 power and consistency, making just two unforced errors from the baseline in the second set, as he extended his winning streak to nine matches in Canada. He will next play top seed Alexander Zverev.

Sigh. Posted this in the "wrong" Rogers Cup. It's Toronto not Montreal.
With Fritz into quarters, List of every active ATP player to make the quarters at every Masters 1000 event.
A few on this list don't get enough credit IMHO.
Indian Wells
Miami
Monte-Carlo
Madrid
Rome
Toronto
Cincinnati
Shanghai

Moved to Toronto. Sorry.
Shelton topped Cobolli in a third set tiebreak.
They had a tiny dustup at the net, which social has picked up.
Most probable explanation, Flavio gestured at 1-0 in the TB that Ben hit his FH basically with his eyes closed, watch Ben’s reaction when he hit a FH winner at 2-0 in the TB. He took offense to his friend essentially saying he got lucky. It pissed Ben off and clearly made him play better. Bear was poked.
Such sensitive dudes.

It continued on to the sideline.

For some reason, Toronto only had night matches today. Not what I'd call a great "innovation" in scheduling.
Regardless, Fritz wins a slugfest without a single break over Jiri Lehecka 7-6(4) 6-7(5) 7-6(5) in 2 hr 56 minutes.
Fritz got more aces 16-6 but otherwise the stats are near mirror images. 100 UFEs combined.
Jiri had the fastest server at 141 mph but both averaged 124 MPH on firsts.

Zverev's coaching session with Rafa's Uncle Toni seems to have given him new life. Comes from behind to dethrone existing champ Popyrin
Michelsen's good run ends vs Khachanov.
Looking forward to de Minaur vs Shelton this evening. Clash of styles. Both players in very good form. Could be a good measuring stick for each going into NY.
Fritz should be favored over Rublev these days. This could be Taylor's year at the US Open?
He's basically in a four way tie for the statistically best server on tour, by the ATP's own stats. Only 1 digit out of 296 separates the top four: Fritz, Zverev, Sinner and Gio.
Of course, Sinner is also the top returner and the other 3 disappear from that list.
