  • Borg Book Reveals Fight with Cancer

Tennis great Bj?rn Borg reveals in the last chapter of his upcoming memoir, "Heartbeats," that he was diagnosed with an "extremely aggressive" prostate cancer, and he told The Associated Press that it is in remission after an operation in 2024. Wrote with wife Patricia, over about 2? years, due out in U.S. on Sept. 23.

Borg writes: "Now I have a new opponent in cancer -- one I can't control. But I'm going to beat it. I'm not giving up. I fight like every day is a Wimbledon final. And those usually go pretty well, don't they?"

That’s terrible news for Bjorn. Let’s hope he makes a full recovery. He’s still the greatest in my eyes…always will be. Borg and Nastase changed the course of my life and have no idea they did so.

He's In remission, so a very good sign.

And, yes, overlooked in today's discussions of the greats. Borg had three (3) "Channel Slams", among the most difficult achievements in tennis.
That equals the combined total of the Big 3. Yes, Fed, Rafa, and Djoko have apiece, while Bjorn equals them combined.

I believe "greatness" should include impact on the sport. Borg, like Fed, changed tennis.
I remember John Newcombe, I think it was, saying of Bjorn open stance forehand, "He can't keep that up. His arm is going to fall off." Now it's universal.
