Brad Gilbert on being an 0-for...
"When you are an 0-for against somebody I know what it feels like because I was 0-16 against Lendl and the last time I played him I 0-15. I was up 4-1 in the third in Philly on a fast Supreme and I knew that I had cracked my ankle. I was probably playing loose. I had a high volley on top of the net to go up 5-1 and absolutely choked it. I lose 7-5 in the third. I'm icing my ankle, sitting on the training table. Lendl comes over and puts his arm around me and he says...if I had a 110 temperature and I was on my death bed I wouldn't fucking lose to you."

Ivan Lendl was an absolute beast. Truly a powerful force in tennis as it straddled the era of real classic tennis and the era of FAKE tennis to be...the modern game. He was actually one of the very last to capitulate to the big racquets. The man had enormous courage and strength. Magnus Gufstafson told me a story about a match he had with Lendl. He had Lendl 5-4 in the first set and at the change over he told his wife to go ahead and book the early flight. Magnus couldn't believe what he was hearing and he couldn't believe what Lendl did to him for the remainder of the match. Lendl closed him out 7-5, 6-0, 6-3.Originally posted by doctorhl View Post

Lendl one of my all time favorites. He has been overshadowed by the crazy big 3 accomplishments, but to me he is easily one of the top 5 or 6 of all time. He made so many Majors Finals. His record certainly in those Finals was not as good as he woukd have liked, but he always competed so well against some great players those matches. He was easily the best player in the world for at least 3 years.Comment

Lendl was an absolute beast and "The Big 3" are fortunate that they didn't have any players like him in their watered down draws. Here he is toying with Brad Gilbert. 1987...notice the racquets.
