  • Dueling Forehands: Sinner vs Djokovic

Two different sets of stats touting the greatest of two very good forehands, that of Novak Djokovic and of Jannik Sinner.
From Tennis Insights, data arm ATP.

From this year's Beijing, Sinner gets a 9.2 rating, way above ATP average of 7.5.
His average forehand speed of 81 MPH is outstanding as is his spin of 3,320 RPMs.
One stat they don't list is "height over net". I believe they give credit for higher margins, which could work against Jannik, who hits low but with high RPMs, This combo would add to total speed when the ball reaches the returner.

I wish they included court position, since both players try to hold the baseline.

Numbers TI posted for Djokovic come from last year's Shanghai. Novak's usually done well there.
His 9.4 is a fraction higher than what they give Sinner. Frankly, I have no idea of 0.2 is a meaningful difference or not on their scale.
TI presents a different mix of stats, highlight his high percentage of shots in (5% above tour average)
    And depth, 3% better.

Anybody got any videos to add to this?

One thing to me that stands out about the Sinner forehand is his max lag, the angle at its deepest lag. forearm to racquet shaft at the deepest part of the lag. It looks like Sinner gets maybe 45 degrees, which is crazy. 90 degrees is very good.
