Did the article about your thoughts on the Serve from last month get edited? Seems some of your comments about the role of the "bow" in the serve are missing or the terms changed?

Maybe have him toss a little more in front and see if that changes anything.

You see what I mean here....the kid has a decent motion but drives up, in my view, a tad early. He is starting to come down to the ground at contact with the ball. With Roger it's the opposite; his body has still rising at contact.Originally posted by johnyandell View PostNot specifically I don't think. I have seen Brian Gordon get kids 15 degrees or so shy of the trophy position. Then start the motion.
The kid's right leg also moves up and round too early.
It's a right sod to re-synch things.

What is the difference between a chop and a slice? The first video is a slice where the racquet head follows through the path of the ball. The second video is a chop and he virtually intersects the path of the ball at one point with his racquet head.Originally posted by stotty View PostWhat are the factors that influence where the racket finishes on a sliced backhand? In these two clips, one finishes with the racket tip pointing at the sky; the other pointing horizontal. I have seen plenty of Roger's where his racket tip finishes pointing at the ground. Why is that?

Fascinating....thanks John. With club I always teach to finish with the tip well above the hand. It's always worked well in the past. A few students question this of course when they see clips of Federer.

Great questions. I addressed that in this series:

Actually it won't work as you must put a title in when you open a new thread. It would be nice to add 30 or so characters to the length of the title. Just in case. I tend to be a bit wordy at times.Originally posted by johnyandell View PostI can check. Or you could just bold it in the first line?

Can you give examples of which pro's best demonstrate, Brian Gordon's idea of keeping the hitting arm "just shy" of trophy position on the serve at the start of leg drive?

KW,
Yeah and there are still occasional flareups. I like the wild wild west of the TW Message boards and run into some of those guys there. All good. I learned a lot from the whole thing.

Didn't know any of that. Very interesting-radical church nuts scare the heck out of me. Sorry you got ambushed by him that way. I think his system is a good beginning and once those basics are ingrained, you just kind of automatically move into 'unit turn' etc. my kids did.
