  • Two-handed backhand with release

    I have just scanned your article about the two-handed backhand. I coach tennis at a small college. One young lady hits her two-handed backhand with a release of the top hand. Any suggestions for improving this stroke would be appreciated.

    The obvious thing would be to hold on...I guess though I would film her and try to determine which version she really was. Connors let go as well--it's a question of when and if it affects the arm shapes.


    If she's a rear arm forehand, have her hit left handed forehands to get the feel for that. Determine a finish point that she has to make with both hands on, and film her until she can make it!
