Me too...klacr! Always changing...shape and form. Shape shifting. A moment becomes an eon in time...like twilight hanging in the balance. Tilden penning his tennis memoirs and thoughts as Gonzales morphs into Federer. Hopman tediously creating Laver, Rosewall and Hoad like Michelangelo forming lumps of clay.

Like the day becomes the night...and all points in between. The past blends into the present which is only anticipation of what is to come...of which one can never be certain. The future...one never knows. Or do they? Like any good shaman...shadows in the night.

Teach your students to adapt to the given situation. Give them the gift of the middle court and how to volley. Give them the knowledge of how to get there (to the net). It's all connected...like the three dots. Ferdinand Celine style. It's evolution baby! (Pearl Jam)

The book is Tilden and the website is tennisplayer.net. The model is Gonzales with the Budge backhand. The coach is Hopman. Federer is the living proof.

    Do the Evolution...Pearl Jam

    Woo..
    I'm ahead, I'm a man
I'm the first mammal to wear pants, yeah
I'm at peace with my lust
I can kill 'cause in God I trust, yeah
    It's evolution, baby

I'm at piece, I'm the man
Buying stocks on the day of the crash
On the loose, I'm a truck
All the rolling hills, I'll flatten 'em out, yeah
    It's herd behavior, uh huh
    It's evolution, baby

    Admire me, admire my home
Admire my son, he's my clone
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
This land is mine, this land is free
I'll do what I want but irresponsibly
    It's evolution, baby

    I'm a thief, I'm a liar
There's my church, I sing in the choir:
    (hallelujah, hallelujah)

    Admire me, admire my home
Admire my son, admire my clones
'Cause we know, appetite for a nightly feast
Those ignorant Indians got nothin' on me
    Nothin', why?
    Because... it's evolution, baby!

I am ahead, I am advanced
I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah
I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher
2010, watch it go to fire
    It's evolution, baby
    Do the evolution
Come on, come on, come on

Leave it to Eddie...and Manifest Destiny.

      Always evolving don_budge. Alsways evolving.

Although I miss the days when I first fell in love with tennis...Becker, Edberg, Lendl...I'm amazed at how tennis is contantly changing. The shot making, the equiptment, the game styles. Very cool stuff.
