  • Novak Daddy

Surprised no one has mentioned the Novak Daddy music video.

Great Great Great...Violent Femmes song "Gone Daddy Gone"

Pure genius. Written by Violent Femmes lead singer Gordon Gano. It features not 1, but 2, yes 2 xylophone solos. 1983 was a great year! Granted, I didn't know it at the time because I turned 1 year old in June of that year. But looking back...it was a great year.

More Genius...artistically expressing the inner game of tennis

You are right klacr...aka Kyle. Nice catch! Extraordinary stuff. The slow motion reveals all. The music adds something to the mix...hard to explain but somehow it tunes me in to the motions. Same thing can be said for my favorites with McEnroe, Lendl and of course you know who...Roger Federer.

Novak is a contortionist. That forehand is crazy. I would love to see him try to perform that move on a tennis ball with the old standard sized wooden racquet. I find it amusing to see the ball sometimes out around the frame of the racquet and musing if he was using the old standard...visioning a ball careening off the frame for destinations unknown in the universe.

Violent Femmes...that is a new one on me. I have heard of Nazi Femmes. More evidence that the man behind the screen is one eclectic guy...at least when it comes to the choice of music. Beautiful work John! And I am no fan of Novak.

1983 was a great year...1984 was even more significant.

I saw the Violent Femmes live at the Warfield in SF--must have been in the 1990s--the word that comes to mind is frenzied. Interesting the rhythm matches 500 frame high speed video so pefectly...

Was going to use Add It Up--actually my VF favorite song--but decided to go with something from them with slightly less explicit lyrics...

That's great John. You were lucky to see them live.

rhythm does match the 500 frame high speed. Not sure if you intended that but worked it out perfectly.

Yes, Violent Femmes were great. "Kiss off" and "Blister in the sun" probably their most commercially successful hits (despite the meaning of the latter song). But they have a few songs that are probably not appropriate for the mass audience "Gimme the Car", "Country Death Song" etc etc...

Glad to see your taste in music is as evolved as your tennis teaching and research skills.

(Personal Favorite: McEnroe and Lendl Groundstrokes- The Police - "Walking on The Moon")

Very powerful song. Love, sacrifice, pain

One of my favorites along with Spirits in the Material World.

        Oh But I digress...

          Gone Daddy Gone...Violent Femmes

          Beautiful girl, lovely dress
          High school smiles, oh yes
          Beautiful girl, lovely dress
Where she is now, I can only guess

          'Cause it's gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone away

          When I see you
          Eyes will turn blue
          When I see you
          Thousand eyes turnin' blue

          'Cause it's gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone away

Tell by the way that you switch and walk
I can see by the way that you baby talk
I can know by the way that you treat your man
I can love you baby till it's a cryin'

          'Cause it's gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone

          Beautiful girl, lovely dress
          Fifteen smiles, oh yes
          Beautiful girl, lovely dress
Where she is now, I can only guess

          'Cause it's gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
          The love is gone
          Yes, gone daddy, gone
