Davis Cup 2013?? Anyone?

I know many of you loathe the Davis Cup. I know it's not perfect and the problems it has many of you are quick to point out and it's hard to argue that. I get it. I really do.


But...

Tomas Berdych and Lukas Rosol defeated Stanislas Wawrinka and Marco Chiudinelli in a 7 hour match. 24-22 in 5th set. Longest match in Davis Cup History. High level throughout. Make me wonder what the quality of tennis will be tomorrow knowing Berdych and Wawrinka will have to play each other in reverse singles.

In full disclosure, would I have mentioned this match if Berdych had not played? Probably not. But I do find it quite noteworthy.

The last thread I started was about Davis Cup Finals last year with Czech Republic and Spain. And that turned out to be a pretty good tie with Stepanek and Almagro battling it out in a great match.

I'm sure there is other Davis Cup news like the Bryan Brothers losing their match to Brazil, Kohlschreiber retiring up 5-4 in 5th set to Argentina. And Novak Djokovic complaining about the court surface and safety in Belgium.

But for this guy, It's about Berdych...
and Rosol, Wawrinka and Chiudinelli

Great call on the finals last year and thanks for the reminder again. I see Jerzy Janowicz is set to go up against Zemlja of Slovenia...at 12 noon here in Europe. I was in Poland the other day.

Wawrinka vs. Berdych at 12.30 as well. A five setter the day after the marathon doubles match. You have to like that as a test of their manhood. The thing about Davis Cup is the emphasis on the doubles...it is often the tie-breaker. Another downer about modern tennis is the relegation of doubles to the mulch pile as well. Remember the days when they all used to play doubles. They probably needed the money.

Goffiin vs. Djokovic at 2 PM. Fabio Fognini vs. Dodig at 4.30...who cares about the match...maybe a glimpse of Ms. Eye Candy! Ladies and Germs meet...Svetoslava Simeonova.

USA got a bit of a scare against Brazil in Jacksonville. Bellucci beating Isner in 5 sets and Thiago Alves playing spirited tennis against American Sam Que...ah forget it, that picture of Fognini's lady made me lose my train of thought.

Never mind.

Davis Cup is over with now and is old news. Fun while it lasted. All 3 days of it.
