Really interesting article on the economics of being a tennis pro on tour:

A friend of mine, a Spanish 45 year old ex-ATP pro told me that he had reached 100 when he was 22 and had to stop, because he did not make enough money. He was ITF seniors champion.

Why do you thing guys like saviano coach? Or NIck B? They could not make a living other wise. Actors make more money. So do writers and musicians. Oil painters make more money. People only want to sponsor and pay for the best, and even then, look at all the empty seats at the televised venues. It's a dying sport being invaded by the poorest players who work the hardest to make the least.

You got that right Geoff. If an academy wants a kid to pay, or coaches want a fee to work with your kid, well, forget it, they will never be a prospect.
