What a terrific article on the Sampras serve motion! The high elbow has long been a key feature of the Sampras serve, but it has never been explained so well. As a coach, translating this information to the student is critical to the student's understanding of the motion, and why the internal shoulder rotation is a key component to developing a professional quality swing. For years, we all heard over and over, "snap your wrist". Then it became "pronate the wrist / forearm"...from coaches all over the world...many of them famous - wow, were they wrong! Understanding the motion of the swing is generated from the internal shoulder rotation is long overdue to be understood and taught. I would love to hear some feedback on this fascinating topic. Thanks John Y. for a great article!
