    Past year I have had pain in my knees going down the stairs. An orthopedic told me I have the beginning of arthrosis. Sooner or later will have to operate.

    I did not believe him and found a German specialist who says our fascias shorten with age, causing pressure in the joints. Curable he said. I followed his advice and bought a rubber cylinder to do a slow intense rolling of the fascias in my legs and after 4 days I was like new. The excercise took close to an hour to do.

    I do it twice a week now in addition to my normal workout.

    Also bought a Compex ems (electrical muscle stimulator) to build up my quads.

    My legs and knees now feel 20 years younger.

    Doctors too often prescribe painkilers or recommend operations.

    This is interesting. Two months ago I had a scan and was diagnosed with arthritis in my left knee cap. The symptoms started with painless clicking about two years ago. Over the last year I developed pain when I go up or down a flight of stairs and it has started to impair my movement on a tennis court. Today I can no longer bend down on my left knee and come up again without significant pain.

    The consultant told me the most helpful thing to do is build up the muscles around the knee, those which support it. He sent me to a hospital physio who has proscribed appropriate exercises.

    Naturally I am acutely worried about this as it could put me out of work if it continues to progress at this rate. I have a very light physique anyway but decided to drop 5 kilos to see if it would help. I was 71 kilos and have dropped to 66 kilos. Being extra light seems to have helped a bit.

    The problem is confined to my left knee, which over years has taken all the loading when I serve. I use a lateral pinpoint stance so the right leg is merely a stabiliser and takes far less of the load than the left leg.

    What is this Complex ems? Can that help me do you think?

        Sorry it is in German, but he demos the exercises on this video. I run the video and cooy what is done. This really helped.

          This is compex. A demo for quads. Fascia rolling helps more.

            Liebscher wrote that arthritis can be healed. Stretch the fascia , resulting in less joint pressure allows blood to rebuild cartilege. It worked for me.

              Thanks so much. A question, since I don't speak German: That roller under the leg...what is it supposed to be doing? And what is the reason for placing the other leg on top? How many times/repeats does the patient do this procedure?

                  The roller under the leg compresses and extends the fascia. Th other leg is used to create more pressure. You need force. There is only one slow motion rep for each side of leg.

                    Really interesting, Phil. I do Graston therapy on my patients and a little on myself as well. What's different here is how slow he wants you to work the roller. But I lreally like the idea that loosening the fascia enables the body to exercise its healing faculties to repair the cartilage. Goes along with the theory behind something else I use: Egoscue Method.

                          It took me 4 days to get rid of the pain and a month of daily comoex sessions on my quads to get back into shape.

                            Phil, the roller arrived this morning. I intend to start working with it each evening but wondered if it is better to do it in the morning? Is there any prescribed time of day it is better to carry out the exercises?

                            Thanks for all your assistance in helping locate the roller. I really appreciate the help you have given me.

                              There is no prescribed time when to do the exercises. Liebscher says to do it when you are not under time pressure. The rolling need be done slowly as shown in the video.
