  • Metz-ATP 250

I am watching this obscure 2nd round match Bash vs Davidovich Fokina. Bash lost the 1st set 6-0. Not pretty. Then this match caught fire. Quite the shot making. 5-5 in the 3rd. Bash ball striking when on is something. DF is a classic embrace the pain Spanish hard hat competitor.

This is another young man to watch and the inevitable comparison with Carlos Alcaraz is interesting to say the least. Rune is 6' 2" compared to Alcaraz's 6' 1" height. arturohernandez is going to like both of these kids size. I say kids but they are playing some serious tennis. Alcaraz has been getting all of the press but Rune is quietly making his way up the ladder. Where Alcaraz burst on the scene in the past couple of months and particularly at the U. S. Open...Rune has been steadily eating his way up the food chain. At this tournament he took out Lorenzo Sonego (ranked #24) and he lost a very tough match against Pablo Carreno Busta (ranked #16).

Physically this young man is a good specimen...most noticeable in the legs. He is quick and strong. The big thing that I like about him is the serve motion. He was really doing some damage with the second serve as well. He isn't afraid to be aggressive with it. Not stupid aggressive. Intelligent and tactical. The forehand is a real weapon as is Alcaraz's. He repeatedly hurt Busta going behind him down the line. It looked as if the kid had the match for his taking but Busta hung in there like a real professional that he is and managed to get the horse in the barn. Rune has a hungry look about him. It will work in his favour to not have the attention that Alcaraz is drawing in the long run. Better to stay under the radar as he develops so as not to get the expectations up unrealistically. He's got a good look as a tennis player. The service motion looks much nicer than Carlos.

The two are virtually the same age as well...18 and one half years old.
