Well into the 90's the classic slice backhand was the predominate swing shape at all levels of the game, including the highest levels. That changed with the widespread use of poly strings - and especially Roger Federer.

In this article we look at the characteristics of the classic slice and some of the differences with the more extreme modern version. Conclusion? For virtually all club, league, and NTRP players, the classic slice is for you!
