Ultimate Drill Games:
4 Return Targets

Jorge Capestany

How much control do you have of your return? Can you go crosscourt short or long at will in both courts? This drill game is the path to developing confidence in your ability to hit all four of these critical returns with confidence and consistency. As the video shows, divide the court into 4 boxes.

Start with box 1. The returner has to hit the box with his return, whether first or second serve. If he misses, he losses a point. If he hits the box the players play it out with a point going to the winner. You can play games to 7 or 11 staying in just box 1. Then proceed and do the same in box 2, box 3, and box 4.

Or stay in the deuce side and alternate between box 1 and box 2. Or go to the ad side and do the same. Finally you can play point games by moving sequentially from box 1 to box 4. Mix all these variations and hitting your return placements will become much more automatic and consistent under match pressure.
